Philosophy Of Teaching

The kind of teacher I will be is an open minded instructor who will hear comments from co-workers for my classroom management and I will portray a trusting kind person the children will not be afraid to speak up with in the classroom. I will role model to the student a friendly, easy to talk with kind of person, involved in everyday activities and greet children with a smile everyday to show I care for them when they enter my classroom. I will be understanding with the children who have trouble staying on task with writing important messages and dates that need to be remembered in their agenda. I will set limits at the beginning of the school year like for instance, why it is important to sit quietly when the teacher is speaking, why the children do not all speak at once and everyone will have a turn, the importance of taking off hat and jacket while in the classroom and I will not forget to mention how much fun it will be to work together through out the whole year! These little steps to remember in the classroom will be a routine for the children and they will show respect by following the rules.

I feel that I will be able to enter a school with respectful attitudes from the children, parents and my co-workers because I will build lesson plans which will have children wanting to come to school everyday to learn elementary education. I will incorporate some of my aboriginal teachings, such as having a talking circle once a week where we will have discussions to see how the children are feeling about school and what they liked best about last weeks lessons that we have worked on already. The talking circle may be a time to see how the children are feeling about school and home envioronmnets. The talking circle is also a time to speak-up in class so this will give support to children who need a little help with speaking out loud. I would like to work together with children in a groups and when we do classroom projects such as, math problems, language arts with reading together out loud, art lessons with teacher working on the same page with students with painting or coloring. I would like to take a few minutes a day to go over vocal exercises because that would benifit children in facial muscles and speech sounds.
When the classroom have everyday words and phrases posted upn on the wall that gives the children help while writing in their daily journal, language arts activity, agenda writing and all school work activity covered. I feel if the children work together on classroom assignments they have a better chance at learning the lesson hearing the teacher and classroom buddy. The children who work complete classroom projects are able to become my classroom helpers for some of the children who need a little guidance with instructions on how to work out the assignment. The children who work ahead more often will need a more advanced project to keep their minds working out acedemic problems through out the year.
The lessons I have learned through out the year are very important ideas shared with the teacher candidates and needs to be passed on into the school district. The lessons I found important to carry on into my classroom is the First Nation Pedegogy education that we researched for one of the N.I.T.E.P acourses and what we heard from the Education gathering in Vancouver at the UBC campus. One of the games that stood out for me was the one where we had to all stand in one circle and each person had to share their feelings about the past weekend. The way you show your feelings are thumbs up for good feelings, thumbs down for bad feelings and thumb in the middle for half good and half bad feelings. I feel that the game is very good to do with children at the beginning of the week and the last day of the week to let out some feelings about home or school. I also observed another game while doing my observation in the school district and what the teacher portrayed was the simon says game where the children all walk or jog around in the classroom to loosen up and let all the body parts move around after sitting in the desk all morning or afternoon. The teacher started the game when children all started to speak out loud all at once or when they moved around at their desks too much so, when they got up to move for a couple of minutes they were fine.
